How can I join the NSG?
There is no direct recruitment. The recruitment for NSG Commandos is generally done from existing defence forces. So in order to be eligible to become a National Security Guard, one has to be a soldier or a trainee of a military or Para-military force. Only those with excellent performances are considered for NSG. Besides, they should not have any red-ink entry, no criminal record and have no punishment record in the last three years of service.
In order to become commando, the first thing which you have to do is join Indian Army as a JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer) or CO (commissioned officer) or soldier after the few years of service you can apply for the post of commando.
How to apply for NSG commandos
- Apply to become an official member of the National Security Guard. Fill out the application form and pay the required fee. Prepare the documents that prove you have completed the training, served in the army or another recognizable government service and passed the medical exam. Then send the complete documentation to the NSG headquarters in Mehram Nagar, New Delhi.
- Wait for the confirmation from the National Security Guard office. Once you get a confirmation for the NSG office. Now you have to go through the medical exams.
- If you pass the medical also. then you are in the NSG academy now.
Selection criteria for NSG Commandos:-
Stage 1: Pre- Selection criteria.
Stage 2: Selection& initial qualification training.
Stage 3: Advanced NSG training.
Only those candidates who finish the 14 months of training effectively are inducted into the NSG staff are sent for the advanced combat training to Israel
Types of Security Forces in India
NSG Commando is composed of three parts:-
- Special Action Group (SAG)
Special action group is the NSG’s principle offensive strike wing. Its members are exclusively drawn from the Indian Army. They are tasked for the counter-terrorist & counter hijacking operations. - Special Ranger Group (SRG)
This is the force that is deployed to protect VIP/VVIPs. Its members are drawn from the central armed police forces and state police. - Special Composite Group (SCG)
This the NSG’s offensive team that is deployed for tackling counter-terrorist operations. It is the deployed for the carrying out the counter-terrorist operation in 5 regions- Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata & Gandhi Nagar.
Phantom Commandos in NSG:-
Phantom commandos are selected for the very high-risk situation where failure is not an option. The best of the elitist NSG are chosen and sent to an unrevealed location to train among the best and latest practices to make them live up to their name- PHANTOM.
