Indian Army Celebrates 70th Army Day

Indian Army is the backbone of the nation as well as it serves other supportive purposes also. The main objective of the Army of any country is to protect the frontiers of the nation from the external aggression. So is the main concern of the Indian Army. The brave men and soldiers of Indian Army has left no stone unturned to fulfill this objective.

Indian Army dates back its history to the British Era when the entire command and control of the Indian Army was completely under the British Army Officers yet Indian Army men displayed highest level of courage and camaraderie on the face of enemy even under Britishers.

It was only in 1949 when the Leadership was transferred to Indian Commander and that Commander was none other than General Kodendra Mohan Cariappa (Then Lieutenant General).Army Day is celebrated on 15th January every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa‘s (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15th January 1949.


Army day 2018 will be celebrated on 15th of January, at Monday. This will be 70th Indian Army day which will be celebrated in the national capital.

Why do we celebrate Army day

Army Day It is celebrated to pay homage and to the courageous and brave Indian soldiers and officers who had sacrificed their fighting for the country. As it is known to all that Indian Army soldiers have displayed highest level of courage and determination in the face of enemy. There are many examples of this from all wars to surgical strike and counter terrorism.


Apart from fighting enemy Indian army plays a vital role during the disaster situations in the country as they are dedicated to the country. The day was decided to be celebrated as the army day in India to start paying tribute to the sacrificed Indian army soldiers at the “Amar JawanJyoti” at India Gate in New Delhi.

After paying homage, an excellent parades including military shows takes place to indicate the new technologies and accomplishments in the Indian Army. Bravery awards including Unit credentials and Sena Medals are distributed at this great occasion.
