In Indian Navy, the women are allowed into the 8 branches as an Officer through women entries which are given below-
- ATC (Air Traffic Controller),
- Observer,
- Law,
- Logistics,
- Education
- Naval Architecture
- Pilot (Maritime Reconnaissance Stream only)
- Naval Armament Inspectorate
Earlier women were inducted only for the SSC ( Short Service Commission) which is 8-10yrs of service. But now the Indian government has given approval for (Permanent Commission) for women in the field of Education, Law and Naval Architecture branch.
Let’s discuss each topic in details:-
EDUCATIONAL DEPARTMENT IN INDIAN NAVY:-
- Age limit- Candidates age must be between 21 to 25 yrs to apply for this vacancy.
Educational qualification-
1. A second class Master’s degree of a recognized university in Physics or Mathematics. Candidates possessing Master’s degree in Physics should have studied Mathematics at least at the subsidiary level at the degree standard and those possessing master’s degree in Mathematics should have studies Physics at least at the subsidiary level at degree standard.
OR
2. A second class Master’s degree of a recognized university in Chemistry or English. Candidates possessing Master’s degree in chemistry should have studies Physics at least at the subsidiary level at the degree standard and those possessing Master’s degree in English should have studied Physics or Mathematics up to the intermediate or equivalent standard
OR
3. A degree in any of the following discipline:-
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Engineering in Computer Science/Technology
OR
4. A second class Master’s degree of a recognized university in computer application or computer science. Candidate should have studied either Physics or Mathematics at their graduation level.
OR
5. A post-graduate degree of a recognized university in Humanities (Economics/History/ Political Science).

Observer In Indian Navy:-
India army, Indian Air Force or Indian Navy they all need an observer. In Indian Navy, they act as airborne coordinators of maritime warfare. Observer usually operates different equipment in Indian Navy’s onboard ship like communication equipment, Radar, Sonar and sonic etc. if you are interested to apply for this. Check eligibility criteria-
- Age limit:- Candidate age must be between 19-24 yrs to apply for this.
- Educational qualification:– Candidate must have B.E or B.tech degree in any stream with having physics and mathematics at 10+2 level.
Logistics /Works in Indian Navy:-
- This is basically the lower grade department. In which Finance, logistic and supply chain management are included.
- Age limit:- 19.5 to 25 yrs
Education qualification:-
For Logistics Cadre
- BE/B Tech in any discipline with 1st class or
- MBA with 1st class or
- B Sc/B Com/B Sc(IT) with 1st class and PG Diploma in Finance/Logistics/Supply Chain Mgt/Material Mgt or
- MCA/M Sc(IT) with 1st class
For Works
- BE/B Tech(Civil)/B Architect
For Catering
- M Sc(HM)/MBA(HM)/B Sc or BA with 1st class and PG Diploma in HM
ATC ( Air Traffic Controller ) of Indian Navy:-
You would have known by the name what it is. This is an Air traffic controller who controls the Air traffic and gives permission to aircraft to fly and clears the landing areas of for safe landing.
- Age limit:- 19.5 to 25 yrs
- Educational qualification:- Candidate must have done B.E or B.tech in any discipline with physics and mathematics at 10+2 level.
Women can Join Navy as Law officer:-
As we know the Indian Navy has its own court as we have seen in the movie Rustom. This is in reality also. If any Navy personnel commits any crime or any mistake he/she will have to appear in the Court. You can join this as an advocate in the Indian navy. lets look at the eligibility criteria.
- Age Limit:- Age must be between 22 to 27 yrs old.
- Educational qualification:– You just have a law degree from any recognized University.
Women can Join Navy as Naval Architecture:-
They are engineers of ship structure and deals with ship designs, shipbuilding, its maintenance and marine operations. You can also apply for this through UES (University entry scheme) as per the latest notification.
- Age Limit:- Candidate age must be between 19.5 to 25 yrs.
- Educational qualification:- Candidates must have B.E or B.tech degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Metallurgy and Naval Architecture with at least 60% marks.
PILOT (General and CPL Holder):-
There is also some vacancies in Navy aviation also. but for that, you will need valid CPL ( commercial pilot Licence) CPL is a course which you can do from any DGCA approved flying academy. it would cost you around 25-30 lakhs.
- Age limit:- 19 to 24 yrs (for Pilot General) 19-25 (For CPL Holder)
Educational Qualification:-
For Pilot General:- BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in 12th standard.
For CPL Holder:- A candidate holding valid and current CPL issued by DGCA (India)
Naval Armament Inspectorate:-
Age Limit- 19 ½ to 25 Years
Educational Qualification:- BE/B Tech in one of the following stream:-
- Electrical
- Electronics
- Mechanical
- Production
- Instrumentation
- IT
- Chemical
- Metallurgy
- Aerospace Engineering
