Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan becomes new chief of Eastern Naval Command

In the Indian Army, there is a change in the Chief Staff of each of the forces every year. Recently, the command of Indian Coast Guard Coastal Patrol Ship, Missile Ships Vibhuti and Nashak, Guided Missile Corvette Kuthar has been given to Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan. Before becoming the new Chief of Staff, the Vice-Admiral was appointed as the commissioning officer of the indigenously built state-of-the-art stealth frigate Sahyadri.

On 16 December 2021, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan was elected as the Chief of Staff of the Indian Coast Guard and given this important charge. On 16 December 2021, the Eastern Command of the Indian Navy celebrated the 50th anniversary of Vijay Diwas and paid tribute to the brave personnel of the Armed Forces who attained martyrdom in the 1971 war. During this war, he made the supreme sacrifice and protected the country by participating in many operations.

About Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan.

Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan is an alumnus of Khadakwasla, Defence Services Staff College Wellington, National Defence Academy (NDA), Naval War College, Mumbai, and National Defence College, New Delhi. He has completed his defence studies at these colleges. The Vice-Admiral is also an expert in Gunnery and Missile Systems. He has vast knowledge and experience about the sea and the coast.

Before this, Vice Admiral Vatsayan has also commanded an Indian Coast Guard Patrol Vessel, the Guided Missile Corvette Kuthar, and the Missile Ships Vibhuti and Nashak. Apart from this, he has also worked as the commissioner officer of the state-of-the-art stealth frigate Sahyadri, built in the country.

Vatsayan: –

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Vatsayan, was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 January 1988. He has more knowledge about gunnery and missile systems. He has done a Staff Course from Defense Services Staff College in 2003 and Higher Commanded Course from Naval War College in 2010. Started his career in the Navy in 1988 and received his first commissioning in the first summer class Offshore Patrol Vessel. He was also part of a commissioning team aboard the Delhi-class guided-missile destroyer INS Mysore. Vatsayan has also served as Joint Director of Personnel, Directorate of Personnel (Policy) before his staff appointment. He has also contributed as Director Naval Planning (Perspective Planning) and Principal Director Naval Planning at Naval Headquarters.

Vice Admiral Vatsayan was promoted to the flag rank in February 2018. He was appointed as the Chief Assistant to the Naval Staff (Policy and Planning) by the IHQ MoD (Navy). After that, he was given the command of the Eastern Fleet of Visakhapatnam from Feb 2020 to Feb 2021. Before becoming Vice Admiral, he was also the Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor of NDA before taking over as Chief of Staff of Navy.

Along with becoming a Vice Admiral, he paid tribute to the brave martyrs on Vijay Diwas to commemorate 50 years of the 1971 war fought between India and Pakistan. On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Sanjay Vatsayan was appointed as the Vice-Admiral of the Eastern Command of the Indian Navy.
