What is DSSC? DSSC is a training college of officers from three wings and civil service officers. It is the most advanced training institute where officers get training and upgrade their knowledge from the mechanics of soldiering to the level of conception of ideas in the sphere of the military, socio-political, economic and scientific fields and integrate them into the larger aspects of national life.

The College has a glorious past and traces its lineage to 1905 when it was set up at Devlali, Maharashtra. In 1907 it shifted to Quetta, now in Pakistan. The College shifted back to India in 1947 and is now home to the joint services course for the three services, under one roof. Besides great military leaders, many of those who have graduated from here have become heads of their states, Senior Cabinet Ministers, Chief of Staff, Senior Commanders, diplomats and civil administrators.

DSSC is situated in the lap of salubrious Wellington (The Nilgiris) and surrounded by innumerable tea plantations and flora of all kinds, DSSC stands tall as an epitome of Indian military proficiency.
Wellington is located in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, approximately 80 km from Coimbatore and 14 km from the famous hill resort town of Udhagamandalam (also called Ooty or Ootacamund).
Nilgiri is the name given to a range of mountains spread across the borders among the states of Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Kerala. The Nilgiri Hills are part of a larger mountain chain known as the Western Ghats.
How DSSC Function:-
The DSSC is a joint services institution. It functions in accordance with the directives issued by the Chiefs of Staff Committee. The Commandant is responsible to the Chiefs of Staff Committee through the Chairman, Joint Training Committee. The aim of the Staff Course is to train selected officers of the three Services in command and staff functions in peace and war in their own service, inter-service and joint service environment, and to provide related general education to enable them to perform effectively in command and staff appointments.
