Who is Director General VS Pathania?
Director-General DG VS Pathania, who is appointed as the Chief Director General of the Indian Coast Guard on 31 December 2021, is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College Wellington and National Defence College New Delhi. Earlier he had served as Flag Officer where he was a qualified helicopter pilot. He also holds a Master’s degree in the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies. He obtained the degree while studying at the University of Madras. During his military career, he specialized in search and rescue and port operations with the US Coast Guard.

When posted as Flag Officer, he has commanded all classes of Coast Guard ships like Insured Patrol Vessel Rani Jindal, Offshore Patrol Vessel Vigraha, and Advance Offshore Patrol Vessel Sarang. DG VS Pathania has served as Principal Director (HRD) as Principal Director (Policy & Planning) at Indian Coast Guard Headquarters New Delhi. He has held various appointments like Chief of Staff in West Indian Coast Guard Zone, Chief Staff Officer in Operations Zone at Delhi Headquarters.
The Staff Officer in Personnel and Administration in the Western Sector of the Indian Coast Guard has taken over as the Commanding Officer at Coast Guard Air Station, Chennai. At Headquarters, he has got an appointment as Director in Personnel Sector and Joint Director in Aviation Sector. Was also posted in 848 Squadron as Squadron Commander in Chennai
DG VS Pathania was promoted as Additional Director General in November 2019 when he was serving as a Flying Officer in his service. Thereafter, he took over as the Coast Guard Commander of the Eastern Seaboard of Visakhapatnam.

When he took over as the Indian Coast Guard Commander, he conducted several major operations on the Eastern Seafront. In which he tightened the vigil on the movement of thousands of crores of tons of gold and drugs and drugs.
