Vice Admiral SN Ghormade Become New Vice Chief of Naval Staff.

Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, a navigation and direction specialist, has assumed charge as the new vice chief of the Indian Navy. He succeeded Vice Admiral G Ashok Kumar who retired after 39 years of service in the Indian Navy. Admiral SN Ghormade was commissioned in the Indian Navy on Jan 1, 1984, and is known as a navigation and direction specialist.

He has had extensive operational tenures onboard frontline warships of the Indian Navy that included commanding guided missile frigate INS Brahmaputra, submarine rescue vessel INS Nireekshak and minesweeper INS Alleppey.

Ghormade graduated from the Naval War College, Mumbai, and the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune. He is also an alumnus of the Naval Staff College at the Naval War College, Rhode Island, US.

Who is Vice Chief of Naval Staff?

1. This is the 2nd highest rank in the Naval Service. Vice Admiral Satish Namdeo Ghormade is the current Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. He took over on July 31, 2021.

2. He will be the principal staff officer at the naval HQ in New Delhi and he will be responsible for Naval operations.

3. The Chief of the Naval Staff serves as an adviser to the Indian government on naval affairs, governs and directs the naval staff.
