Varuna Naval Exercise – This Naval Exercise between India and France is the largest ever naval exercise which will be commenced in early May 2019. Varuna Naval Exercise will be held in Goa coast. In this exercise, India will present its aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya along with its MiG-29K fighter jets. The French will represent their FNS Charles de Gaulle with Rafale-M jets.

This purpose of this exercise is to strengthen dual carrier task group operations and anti – submarine warfare movements.
India-France Defence Ties
This joint strategic exercise in the Indian Ocean Region was first established in March 2018 between the two countries which are working closely to implement this exercise into future use.
This military agreement between two countries will provide Indian Navy access to French bases located in the Indian Ocean region including the some of the islands in Madagascar and Djibouti and French Navy access to Indian ports including the Mumbai naval port where the French anti-aircraft destroyer FNS Cassard will dock.
This is the first ever exercise in history which will involve aircraft carriers, destroyer ships, fighter planes and submarines between the two countries.
