Top 10 Military Operations:-
1. India–Pakistan military confrontation 2016:-
Indian Army conducted surgical strikes against terrorist camps in PoK on the night. The strikes, conducted in six sectors, were carried out by the elite para commandos of the Indian Army. These Heliborne strikes were carried out across a 3 km area across the LoC on the Pakistan side and Indian commandos destroyed six eight terrorist camps. Indian Army confirmed that heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy, including the Pakistan Army soldiers. This is the latest operation by the Indian Army.
2. Indian counter-insurgency operation in Myanmar 2015:-
Indian Army allegedly conducted hot pursuit of Naga terror outfit NSCN-Khaplang along the India-Myanmar border.
3. Operation Black Tornado 2008:-
The 2008 Mumbai attacks (also referred to as 26/11) were a series of terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, an Islamist terrorist organisation from Pakistan, carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai.
During the attacks, both hotels were surrounded by Rapid Action Force personnel and Marine Commandos (MARCOS) and National Security Guards (NSG) commandos. They killed all the terrorists and rescue the civilians.
4. Operation Vijay 1999:-
Indian operation to push back the infiltrators from the Kargil Sector, in the 1999 Kargil War. The Indian Air Force’s role in acting jointly with Indian Army ground troops during the war was aimed at flushing out regular and irregular troops of the Pakistan Army from vacated Indian positions along the LoC.
5. Operation Cactus 1988:-
Para commandos of the Indian Army and MARCOS of the Indian Navy oust Tamil nationalist mercenaries of PLOTE who instigated a coup in Male in the Maldives.
6. Operation Pawan 1987:-
Operations by the Indian Peace Keeping Force to take control of Jaffna from the LTTE in late 1987 to enforce the disarmament of the LTTE as a part of the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord.
7. Operation Meghdoot 1984:-
Indian military’s capture of the majority of Siachen Glacier. The first phase of the operation began in March 1984 with the march on foot to the eastern base of the glacier. A full battalion of the Kumaon Regiment and units from the Ladakh Scouts marched with full battle packs through an ice-bound Zoji La pass for days. The units under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel D. K. Khanna were moved on foot to avoid detection of large troop movements by Pakistani radars.
8. Operation Blue Star 1984:-
Carried out to remove separatist religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his armed followers from the buildings of the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar, Punjab.
9. Bangladesh Liberation War 1971:-
The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan from 3 December 1971 to the fall of Dacca (Dhaka) on 16 December 1971. The war began with Operation Chengiz Khan’s preemptive aerial strikes on 11 Indian air stations, which led to the commencement of hostilities with Pakistan and Indian entry into the war for independence in East Pakistan on the side of Bengali nationalist forces. Lasting just 13 days, it is one of the shortest wars in history. In the process, it also becomes part of the nine-month-long Bangladesh Liberation War.
10. Operation Polo 1948:-
Indian armed forces ended the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad and led to the incorporation of the princely state of Hyderabad in Southern India, into the Indian Union.
