How to join Officers Training Academy

The Officers Training Academy or OTA are training establishments of the Indian Army that provide training to officers for the Short Service Commission (SSC). The first academy was established in the year 1963 and is located in the outskirts of Chennai. After this, a new academy has been established in Gaya in the year 2011. Both academies provide a 49-week course in order to prepare graduate candidates for all branches of the Indian Army except the Army Medical Corps.

How To Join Officers Training Academy Chennai?

In order to join OTA Chennai, there are several ways available for candidates:

Through CDSE: Men and women can join Officers Training Academy Chennai for SSC Non-Technical Branch through CDS. Combined Defence Services Exam is conducted by UPSC and held twice a year. This exam includes two papers – English and General Awareness. Both papers consist of 120 objective type questions. The notification comes in the month of March/April and September/October and exam is held in February/March and September/October.

SSC-Tech: Technical graduate men and women can join OTA Chennai through SSC-Tech Entries. There is no written exam for this entry. The shortlisting of application is done on the basis of cut off percentage of the qualifying exam, including engineering. The notification comes in April and October for men and December/January and June/July for women.

NCC Special Entry Scheme: LLB/LLM graduates (both males and females) with 50% aggregate marks and 2 years service in NCC Senior Div. Army with minimum ‘B’ Grade in ‘C’ Certificate are eligible for this entry. The notification comes in April and October. Direct SSB calls made to candidates possessing desired qualifications after an initial screening of the applications.

Judge Advocate Entry: Law graduates (both males and females) with LBB/LMM with 55% marks are eligible for this entry. In addition to this, registered with Bar Council of India / State are also eligible. Like NCC Special Entry, SSB calls are made for this entry.

How To Join Officers Training Academy Gaya?

Officers Training Academy Gaya trains the cadets of 10+2 TES as well as SCO entry Army in their commissioning training. Check out the ways to join Officers Training Academy Gaya:

Through 10+2 TES: Male candidates who have passed 10+2 or appearing in 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 70% in PCM are eligible for this entry. This is Engineering Entry. Its notification comes in May/June and October/November.

SCO Entry: This is only for Indian Army soldiers only. Here, candidates can apply directly from their respective units as and when the notification comes.
