Indian Air Force X Y Selection Procedure

Indian Air Force invites unmarried male candidates to join as Airmen in Group X (Technical) Trades and Group Y (Non-Technical except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF (S) and Musician) Trades and Group X and Y. Online Examination – Indian Air Force X and Y Group

The online exam for IAF Airmen is divided into two parts, including Group X and Group Y. Candidates have to qualify in each paper separately in their respective groups.

Group “X” Trades: The duration of this exam is 60 minutes. It includes English, Physics, and Mathematics that follows 10+2 CBSE syllabus.

Group “Y” Trades: The duration of this exam is 45 minutes. It includes English as per CBSE syllabus and Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA).

Both Group X and Y Trades: The duration of this exam is 85 minutes. It includes English, Physics, and Mathematics as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness.

Physical Fitness Test

This is the second round of the Indian Air Force X and Y Group selection procedure. It is mandatory to pass this round. This test is divided into various parts:

  • 6 KM run in 6 minutes 30 seconds
  • 10 Push-ups
  • 20 Squats
  • 10 Sit-ups

Adaptability Test 1

Candidates who clear Physical Fitness Test will proceed to this round where the first test is SRT (Situation Reaction Test). As the name suggests, the decision making and reaction or response of candidates are assessed. There are total of 45 SRTs for which 30 minutes are allotted to students.

Adaptability Test 2

Candidates who clear Adaptability Test 1 will appear for Group Discussion. In this round, 10-15 candidates have to discuss their views on a common assigned topic. These topics can be related to current affairs and social events. This round is conducted to test the knowledge and communication skills of a person. After clearing this round, selected candidates will go through medical examination.

Medical Examination – Indian Air Force X and Y Group

After clearing Adaptability Test 2, candidates will appear for medical examination where they will be checked medically.

  • Height: 152.5 cms
  • Chest: 5 cms
  • Weight: It should be proportionate to height and age. Minimum required weight should be 55 kg for Operations Assistant (ATS) Trades only.
  • Eyes: 6/12 in each eye. 6/6 in the healthier and 6/18 in weaker eye with glasses. Colour blindness and Cataract is not allowed.
  • Hearing: Normal hearing ability is required. Also, candidates should be able to hear forced whisper from distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
  • Dental: Should have health gums – minimum 14 dental points.
  • Health: Candidates should be free from any disease.
  • Tattoo: Permanent tattoos are only permitted on the inner face of the forearms, back part of hand / reserve side of palm.

All India Select Merit List – Indian Air Force X and Y Group

Candidates who clear the medical examination will be shortlisted on the basis of marks and based on that, merit list will be made. Selected candidates will get a call letter and enrolled in the Indian Air Force.
