CDS– II 2017 Exam Pattern

UPSC Conducts Combine Defence Service CDS Exam twice in a year. It is one of the biggest written examination recruiting officers in Indian Armed forces in three of its wings i.e., Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. Males are eligible to join Army (IMA), Navy and Airforce while for Army (OTA, SSC) and women can only apply for Army (OTA). Both male and females candidates are eligible.

Selection process is followed by two steps procedure in which to qualify written exam is primary one which is followed by Service Selection Board Interview of five days.

Examination Pattern

CDS exam is an objective type paper that consist three papers, each of two hour duration. The papers are of English, General Awareness and Mathematics. All the three papers are of 100 marks each, which make the CDSE of total 300 marks. Total number of questions is 120 in each paper and each paper is of 2 hour duration followed by a break of 1 hour before next paper.

While, Candidates who are applying for only OTA i.e. Army SSC Non-Tech entry have to give only two papers i.e. English and General Awareness.

Negative marking: There is 1/3rd mark deduction for every wrong answer. Hence for every correct answer a candidate gets approximately 0.8 marks and for each wrong answer 0.33 marks are deducted.

Syllabus of examination

English: This is the first paper of the exam. It is an objective paper and consist questions related with general English such as antonyms, synonyms, sentence correction, questions on unseen paragraphs, error detection questions etc.

General Knowledge: General Knowledge comprises of the standard part of Combine Defence Service exam. Questions are asked from Polity, Geography, History, Science, Economy etc. Current affair is also an integral part of this examination in which recent happenings of around a year and six month were asked. Mathematics: In this section objective type questions of elementary mathematics are asked from various sections such as Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Mensuration and Statistic.

The candidates who successfully qualified written examination that they will get marks more than cutoff level will be called for Personality Tests or SSB.
