NCC Entry 55 Training:- The OTA accepts candidates for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the regular Army. The vacancies are divided into specific categories, with opportunities for NCC Men and NCC Women. The available vacancies for NCC Men are 45 for the General Category and an additional 5 for the Wards of Battle Casualties of Indian Army personnel. NCC Women have 4 slots in the General Category and 1 for the Wards of Battle Casualties. Eligible candidates are selected based on their performance and position in the final order of merit.

Duration of Training:
Selected candidates at OTA undergo a challenging 49-week training program. Pre-Commission Training:

Upon successful completion of Pre-Commission training at OTA, Chennai, all candidates are awarded a prestigious “Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies” by the University of Madras. Cost of Training:
The entire cost of training at OTA is borne by the government. However, in cases where a candidate voluntarily withdraws from training due to personal reasons, excluding medical grounds or reasons beyond their control, they will be liable to refund the cost of training on a weekly basis. The current cost of training, as of 2022, is ₹15,055 per week, subject to revision from time to time. This policy ensures that candidates are committed to completing their training and discourages withdrawals for personal reasons.
Tenure of Engagement:
Upon successfully completing the training at OTA, candidates are granted a Short Service Commission for an initial period of 10 years, which can be extended by an additional 4 years. After the completion of 10 years, male and female officers who wish to continue serving in the Indian Army may be considered for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) based on their eligibility and suitability. Those who are not selected for PC but are considered fit and suitable may continue as Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) for a total period of 14 years, including the initial tenure of 10 years.
