Production:-
The Barak 8 missile inducted into the Indian Air Force is produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited of India. While the structure of the weapon and technology of this missile, the Alta system, and other things are being developed by the Defence Administration of Israel. The missile was jointly developed by Israel’s Israel Aerospace Industry and India’s Defence Research and Development Organization. This missile is designed to defend against any aerial threat posed by Indian Aircraft, Anti-Ship Missiles, Helicopters, UAVs, Cruise Missiles, and Fighters.
When did Barak 8 join the Indian Army?
On 20 September 2016, India successfully test-fired a state-of-the-art version of the Barak 8 surface-to-air missile. The test was carried out by the Indian Air Force through a mobile launcher in the Chandipur range in Odisha’s Baleshwar district. In March 2009, India signed an agreement with Israel to induct the Barak 8, a nuclear weapon-carrying missile, into the army. In the agreement, he agreed to include 24 missiles in the army.
Features-
- The range of the missile is only about 70 to 90 km.
- The length of this missile is 4.5 meters and weight is about 3 tons and it is capable of carrying around 70 kg with it.
- It uses a well-equipped radar system for multi-role surveillance and threat detection.With the installation of this radar, the missile will get an indication of where the unmanned aircraft flying in the airfare, and they can be easily targeted.
- It was first trained on 30 June and 1 July.The Barak 8 missile to be inducted into the Indian Navy was successfully test-fired from INS Kolkata on 30 December 2015. Where the successful test of the ground-to-air missile was completed.
- BEL, BDL, LNT, and Tata group along with many other companies also contributed to making this missile.The Barak 8 missile is inducted into the Indian warship INS Kolkata in December.
- The initial 32 missiles will be deployed on INS Kolkata by the Indian Defence Ministry.When missiles of the advanced surface-to-air system will be deployed to protect the country’s coastal gas fields.
- Presently, both the systems of Barak 8 i.e. sea and land versions are available with the Indian Air Force.
Deployment of Barak 8 missile: –
It is deployed on a Safar 5 carrier in Israel. Whereas in addition, Israel has deployed Barak 8 aboard INS Lahav. The Barak 8 missile in the Indian Navy has been deployed at INS Kolkata. In addition, INS Visakhapatnam, INS Vikramaditya, INS Vikrant, and 17A warships of the Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy have also been commissioned.
