Find out the secret of becoming successful by this 3 times SSB Qualified Ex – MKCian
Shivansh Dubey cleared NDA / Army TES / Navy B.Tech Entry SSB Interviews in the same year. He cleared 12th in 2014 and then he got himself enrolled in 6 Month NDA Written Exam Batch and SSB Interview Batch in 2015 at Major Kalshi Classes. He also filled other application forms in January 2015 including Army TES & Navy 10+2 B.Tech Entry. He cleared every exam he applied for in 2015 and now has completed 3 years of his training in Ezhimala, Kerala. As we came to know that he is currently in Allahabad enjoying his After Semester Holidays from INA Ezhimala, we decided to have a conversation with him to deeply understand the preparation and approach one should give in SSB interviews.

“I want to start off by saying that based on my experience; SSB Interview entirely depends on a certain judgement factor. That judgement factor is basically of finding a right candidate which can be groomed accordingly to them in the most apt manner possible. They obviously look for the 15 OLQs (Officer Like Qualities) that everyone knows of. They check your appearance, attitude and probably the most important of all which is the expressions on your face. They can read everything about you in terms of confidence, approach, or how you will deal with the certain situations presented before you. Though it was my first attempt but initially, I participated in various activities in my school which subconsciously helped me a lot through the different tasks conducted in those 5 days. Aspirants need to understand that they have to show what they actually are in those 5 days.”
“No one can stop you if you’re never afraid to participate and to excel. Based on all of that, Officers determines whether he deserves to stay or not. You don’t have to add something which is not a part of your personality.” He added.
Shivansh insisted on being confident. He told us that knowledge is the key to gain confidence. “Be Raw!”,was his motto.
PPT and GD –
“Group Discussion is the most important part of the screening process. The story that you have written based on the picture that was given to you has actually been given to others candidates too. They too have probably written the same story but when the GD starts and everyone speaks, you have to ‘make believe’ them by the way you speak, without offending anyone and also so that everyone can understand it.”
“The most crucial time to show your OLQs are when the officers present in the screening test says, “Your time starts now.” That precious time is when the GD becomes a fish market. You will get confused as how to start because everyone present in your batch (25-30) start speaking at the same time. In that moment, you have to be calm and gentle. Your aim is not to oppose your batch-mate’s opinions but to be agreeable and to present your own opinion in that way that you already are an officer.
“In my case, I picked on a rather confused and probably a dumb guy as this was clearly showing on his face. I immediately shouted that Chest Number 11 wants to say something and because of that everyone stopped talking. I knew that the guy will be hesitant to speak so I quickly grabbed this golden opportunity and immediately gave my points and opinions in front of all. Also, I didn’t speak anything before and after this.”
Psychological Test –
“I remember the first psychological test was the Thematic Perception Test where you will be given 12 pictures (last one being blank) and you have to make a thematic story of them all. Obviously since it is a psychological test, it will examine the inner-workings of your mind. The trick is to never use any second person pronouns. Always use names and make up minute details as you go along with your story as this is all real. When the 12th photo comes, which is blank, you have to use any one of the 11 stories that you just make and make up a same thematic story that supports and can be a conclusion for all the stories. Aspirant’s writing should be very fast and every single story should be complete.”
Shivansh also told us that only four minutes are given for a single story.
“Then comes the Word Association Test gives you 60 words. 30 seconds are given on every single word on which you have to write a statement on. The trick is you never imply or use any ideology which simple means that don’t delve deeply into that word which comes on your screen for 15 seconds.”
The Interview –
“Actually, all the three interviews of mine were comparably longer than most of the candidates. I remember my first Interview (Navy 10+2) was in Vishakhapatnam which ran for almost 1 hour 45 minutes.
Shivansh is currently pursuing Electrical Engineering in Navy at Ezhimala.
