Types of regiments in the Indian Army
Indian Army is the 3rd largest Army in the world. It has Approx 1.4 million active soldiers and 2.1 million reserve personnel and around 1.3 million Paramilitary personnel. India has many regiments. Indian Army has given them the different names to each Regiment according to their capacity and their way of attacking and training. Bihar Regiments
The Bihar Regiments is an infantry Regiments of the Indian Army. This Regiment was formed in 1941 by the Britishers. And they are raised by the Mir Kasim as Bihari Battalions. They also fought against the Britishers in some engagement during the Independence in the guidance of Mir Kasim. They are not only excellent soldiers, also they are quick learners and apply the tactical drills with initiative.
Parachute Regiments
This is an Airborne Regiment infantry and special force Regiments in the Indian Army. It was formed in the year 1941 by the Britishers, but this regiment is active since 1945. And their motto is Conqueror (satrujeet). They are not only trained soldiers also they are very intelligent about their work. They always work as a team. They are still in the action and leading by the best of our Leaders of the Indian Army.
Punjab Regiments
This regiment is one of the oldest Regiments and most senior regional infantry in the Indian Army. This Regiment was formed in 1947 by the British Indian Army. During the participation soldier from the Punjab Regiments has given to Pakistan. And the rest of the soldiers were in India. and now this Regiments has a soldier from the North-East and consists Dogras and Sikhs but in exception, it has also some soldiers from another caste also.
Madras Regiments
This regiment is also one of the oldest Regiments in the Indian Army. This regiment is formed by the Britishers in the year 1750. Their motto is It is glory to die on duty. They have taken part in numerous campaigns with the Indian Army and still serving the nation.
Rajput Regiments:-
The Rajput Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army. It is composed primarily of troops from the Rajput, Bengali, Dogra, Ahir, Brahmin, Gurjar, Jat, Muslim, and Sikh communities. During the 2nd World War, the class composition of the regiment was 50% Rajput and 50% Muslim.
Jat Regiment & Sikh Regiment
Jatt Regiment is one of the longest-serving and most decorating Regiments in the Indian Army. This Regiment has won many battles for the nations. This Regiment was formed by the British Indian Army in the year 1922.
Sikh Regiment is also one of the best Regiment and formed in the year 1979 by the Indian Army. It recruits soldiers from the Sikh community.
Gorkha Regiment
This Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army. They are basically known for their bravery and honesty. It was formed in the year 1947 by the Indian Army. It recruits the soldier from the Nepal and Gorkhas of Nepal.
Garhwal Rifle Regiment
This Regiment is the most decorated infantry regiment of the Indian Army. It was originally raised by the Bengal Army in 1887, after the independence they are serving for the nation in the guidance of Indian Army.
Brigade of guard
This Regiment is a mechanized infantry regiment of the Indian Army. It was raised as first “All India” “All Class” infantry Regiment of the army where all the troops from all parts of Indian work together. This is the one of the best regiments has ever made by the Indian army for working together for the nation without any caste, community, and religion.
How many Soldiers in one Regiment
The number of soldiers depends on the situation of the place where they are on duty but normally each regiment has approx 1500-2000 soldiers in each regiment.
Indian Army also keeps changing his soldiers from the regiments for better security, and the soldiers from each regiment are highly trained because they are there for the nation’s security. They can’t take the risk for the nation because of their training.
