For the RRT 91 and 92 courses, the Indian Army is accepting applications from qualified male candidates for the position of Religious Teacher as Junior Commissioned Officer.
At Regimental/Unit religious institutions, religious teachers deliver sermons to the troops and carry out numerous rites. In addition to generally looking after the religious institutions and the welfare of the Officers, Soldiers, and their families, their duties also include attending funerals, ministering to the sick in hospitals, reading prayers with the convalescents, visiting soldiers serving prison sentences, and giving special religious instruction to children and enlisted boys.

For the Pandit, Pandit (Gorkha), Granthi, Maulvi (Shia), Padri, Bodh Monk, and Maulvi (Sunni) categories, there are a total of 128 openings. It is their duty to lead numerous rites at Regimental/Unit religious institutions and to preach religious scriptures to the troops.

They must also attend funerals, minister to the sick in hospitals, read prayers with convalescents, visit soldiers serving prison sentences, and give special religious instruction to children and enlisted boys in addition to generally caring for the religious institutions and the welfare of officers, soldiers, and their families.

Indian Army JCO & RT Eligibility Criteria

The minimum eligibility criteria for candidates applying for the JCO exam for the previous years.

Age Limit (as of 01/10/2022)

The age bracket in respect of Civilian and In-Service Candidates would not be below 25 years of age and not above 36 years of age on 01 Oct 2022 (i.e. candidates born between 01 Oct 1986 and 30 Sep 1997 inclusive of both dates).

Educational Qualification

A graduate in any discipline from an accredited university shall be the minimal requirement for admission to this unique list of Junior Commissioned Officers (Religious Teachers). In addition, the candidate must meet the requirements below, depending on their religious affiliation: –

(i) Pandit and Pandit (Gorkha) for Gorkha Regiment. Hindu candidates with Acharya in Sanskrit
OR
Shastri in Sanskrit with a one-year diploma in „Karam Kand‟.
(ii) Granthi. Sikh candidates with „Gyani‟ in Punjabi.
(iii) Maulvi and Maulvi (Shia) for Ladakh Scouts. Muslim candidates with Maulvi Alim in Arabic or Adib Alim in Urdu.
(iv) Padre. Any person who has been ordained priesthood by the appropriate ecclesiastical authority and is still on the approved list of the local Bishop.
(v) Bodh Monk (Mahayana). Any person who has been ordained Monk/Buddhist Priest, by the Appropriate Authority. The term Appropriate Authority will mean Head Priest of the Monastery where the person has been initiated into priesthood. The head priest should be in possession of Geshe (PhD) of Khampa or Lopon or Rabjam with a proper certificate from the Monastery.
Note:- The above mandatory education qualifications should be acquired by individuals from recognized universities. All the above eligibility criteria are common for In-service and Civil Candidates.
