The WDMMA has published the Global Air Powers Ranking for the year 2022, placing the Indian Air Force above the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, also known as the Chinese Air Force. In this report, the total combat capability of various air services of different countries of the world is evaluated and they have been ranked accordingly. Not just China, the Indian Air Force is placed above the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF), the Israeli Air Force, and the French Air and Space Force as well, and it is said that the Indian Air Force has increased its power unprecedentedly.
What is WDMMA?
The World Directory of Modern Military Aircraft evaluates the Air Force of different countries based on different factors. This is completely a private organization and this institution is considered completely unbiased. The agency takes various factors into account and produces a comprehensive report that describes in detail the current strengths and weaknesses of modern military air services around the world. WDMMA prepares reports based on extensive research and at present, WDMMA monitors the air force of 98 countries of the world and covers 124 air services. With this, the WDMMA follows 47,840 aircraft in the world.
How does WDMMA prepare reports?
When preparing its annual ranking on modern military air services around the world, the WDMMA uses a formula that takes into account values relating to the total combat power of the nation’s various air services. WDMMA researches the air power of different countries and analyzes points like modernization, defence capability, attack capability, logistic support, and attack capability and prepares ‘True Value Rating’ (TVR). Thus, a country’s military air power is analyzed not only based on its total quantity of aircraft but its quality and general mix of inventory. However, WDMMA says that the work on TVR is in progress and it is continuously updated as per the requirement. It also focuses on local air-industry capabilities, inventory balance (the usual mix of unit types), and force experience.
What does the 2022 report say?
The Global Air Powers Ranking (2022) report has given the highest TVR score to United States Air Force (USAF) – 242.9 and placed it at the first position. The US Air Force comprises a broad mix of aircraft types and many products are sourced locally from the vast US industrial base. It maintains dedicated strategic level bombers, CAS aircraft, a large helo, and a combat force (many of which are multi-role types), and is going to be even stronger with hundreds of transport aircraft and hundreds of units in the coming days.
