Highlights of PM Modi’s two-nation visit to Maldives and Srilanka

PM Modi’s Two-Nation Visit: The Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi concluded his two-nation visit to the Maldives and Sri Lanka and left for Delhi. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka – Ranil Wickremesinghe accompanied him to the airport.

After coming back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I had a short but immensely fruitful Sri Lanka visit. Sri Lanka has a special place in our hearts. I assure my sisters and brothers of Sri Lanka that India will always be there with you and support your nation’s progress. Thank you for the memorable welcome and hospitality.”

PM left the Maldives and arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday morning. He is the first foreign leader to visit Sri Lanka after the Easter terror attacks held in Sri Lanka in the month of April. He landed in Colombo and visited St. Anthony’s Shrine, Kochchikade in order to pay homage to individuals who lost their lives during the Easter terror attack.

When it comes to PM’s visit to the Maldives, Modi held wide-ranging talks with President – Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He visited the Maldives on Saturday. It was a one-day visit. During the visit, India and Maldives signed six agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas, including defence and maritime security. A coastal surveillance radar system and a composite training centre for the Maldives defence forces were inaugurated by PM of India and President of Maldives.

PM was conferred with the Maldives’ highest honor “Rule of Nishan Izzudden” during his visit. He also addressed that the Maldivian Parliament hold an important position in the neighborhood of India. While focusing on cricket diplomacy, he said that India will promote the sport in the Maldives and meet Solih’s mission to develop cricket in the country. Modi also gifted a bat, which is signed by the Indian cricket team, to President of Maldives. During the visit, India and Maldives also agreed to start a ferry service from Kochi in Kerala to the Maldives.

Prime Minister of India visited two island nations within 24 hours. After Modi’s two-nation visit, He arrived in the temple town of Tirupati with the aim to pay his prayer to Lord Venkateswara. He landed in Andhra Pradesh and received by chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy at the airport. He also addressed a public meeting in Tirupati.

Modi’s two-nation visit might result in some major changes in the country and some pioneer in Sri Lanka and Maldives. It might be remembered as the first step for “Cricket in the Maldives” and a big hand of friendship for the Sri Lankans. Through this meeting of Modi clearly showcased that the country is in friendly terms with the two nations and will be taking mutual decisions that will be best suited for India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
