Type of Branches in the Airforce:-

There are three types of entries in the AFCAT exam. After you qualify for your written test and other medical tests then you can join any branch of AFCAT as per your choice.

  1. Ground Duty Branch
  2. Flying Branch
  3. Technical

No special examinations are conducted for each of the above states. To qualify in the above-mentioned branches, you have to clear the written exam of AFCAT only. After which you have the option to work in any one branch of the Indian Air Force. To appear in the written examination of the AFCAT, a candidate needs to meet the required eligibility criteria related to the application form.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2023 for Flying Branch:-

After passing the AFCAT exam, if you want to get selected in the flying branch, then you have to fulfil the following eligibility criteria. To become a fighter pilot or pilot in the Indian Air Force, you must fulfil the eligibility criteria sought in the application form.

  • The candidate must be complete a graduate to fill the application form.
  • Such candidates who are in the final year of the graduation examination can also fill this application form.
  • The candidate must have passed the 12th examination with Physics and Mathematics with 60% marks.
  • The minimum age of the candidate should be 19 years and a maximum of 24 years while filling the application form.

To join the Indian Armed Forces, candidates must be medically fit. To serve as a pilot in the Flying Branch, a candidate must be fit as per the eligibility criteria for the medical examinations given below.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2023 for Ground Duty Branch:

Here are some general eligibility criteria that one must have to apply for the AFACT Examination 2023:

  • Β A candidate must have completed graduation to appear for the AFCAT examination.
  • Β If the candidate studied in the final year or final semester of his graduation.They can also be eligible to apply for this Examination.
  • Β Eligible candidates below the age of 25 years must be unmarried.
  • Age Limit:Β The minimum age of the candidate should be 19 years and a maximum of 26 years while filling the application form.

  • A candidate must have completed a graduate course in science/ Statistics /Geography/ Environmental/ Oceanography and any other branch related to Meteorology eligible to apply for this.

Education Eligibility for Aeronautical (Mechanical) Branch

  • The Candidate must Complete BE/B. Tech Engineering Degree in Mechanical branch from any Indian-recognized University or Institute.

Criteria for Medical Examination in AFCAT Flying Branch.

The Flying State Medical Test of the Indian Air Force is slightly different from the medical test required in other branches of the Indian Air Force AFCAT. Below you are given complete details of the Flying Branch Medical Exam.

Standards of Vision Required:-

  • Your vision should not be worse than 6/12 if you wear glasses.
  • If you do not use glasses, your eyesight should be 6/6.
  • If there is myopia in the eyes, then the norm should be 0.75 diopters for hypermetropia and 1.5 diopters for hypermetropia.
  • A candidate with binocular vision should have standard 3 visions.
  • The candidate should not have the dilemma of night blindness or colour blindness.

There is no surgery of any kind in the eye. Some exemptions for this entry for certain cases are as follows.

  • A candidate who has undergone surgery can get the surgery done only once.
  • If the candidate has undergone laser surgery, then that surgery should be done after 20 years. After surgery, your vision should be fine and your eyes should be healthy.
  • The number of all the teeth present in your mouth should be complete. Any deformity can put you out of the flying branch of the Indian Air Force.

Body Measurements in AFCAT

  • During the physical measurement, your clothes are removed and tested by the examining doctors.
  • There must be a normal ratio between your weight and height.
  • There should not be any kind of deformity related to bones like arthritis, joint pain, joint knee, etc.
  • There must be at least 5 cm expansion in the chest.
  • In case of any fracture in the body, you will be out of the flying branch of the Indian Air Force.
  • During the medical checkup, the candidates are also given lung X-ray, kidney ultrasound, liver-related diseases, liver tests, and blood tests.
  • The height of the candidate should be a minimum of 157 cm. In which the length of the foot is 99 centimeters by 120 centimeters.
  • The height of the thigh should be 64 cms and the leg length should be a minimum of 81.5 cms and 96 cms after sitting.
  • The minimum height of the female candidate should be 152 cm.
  • If you are Temporarily Rejected in the above-given medical fitness in any way. So you can retake this medical test between 45 to 90 days and a maximum of 160 days.
