What is permanent commission in Indian Army:-

The permanent commission in Indian Army, where you can work for the nation till the retirement, till 60 years of age, as a soldier or as an officer.

Permanent Commission for women in Indian Army

The earlier permanent commission was not open for the women in Army, women can join the service as Short Service commission only, but according to the recent news, now the women can also join the Army as Permanent Commission from April 2020.
The Army adjutant general said that the women will be inducted as permanent commission in those 10 streams which are selected for the women. After the 2-3 years of service, She will have to choose the stream for the permanent commission whichever she chooses she would be given training for this. Earlier women were given Permanent Commission for Judges Advocate general and Army education corps only and the other 8 branches are:-

  • Signals
  • Engineering
  • Army air defense
  • Army aviation
  • Electronics and mechanical engineering
  • Army service corps
  • Army ordnance corps
  • Intelligence department

But now these all departments are an open permanent commission for women from April 2020.

How to join the Indian Army as a permanent commission for women.

There are many ways for men to join the Indian Army as an officer or as a soldier like NDA, CDS, TES, NCC special entry, etc. but only a few selected ways are there for women to join the service.

CDS-OTA-You can appear for the Combined defence service examination after the graduation for OTA which is the Officers training academy, by this women can join the service.

Eligibility criteria for Officers Training Academy (OTA):- For OTA Candidates should have a graduation degree in any discipline from any recognized Institute. through the OTA candidate can become an officer in the Indian Army.

Age required for OTA:- Candidates, age must be between 19-27yrs old.

Exam pattern of CDS-OTA examination:-

  • Written exams conducted by UPSE.
  • SSB interview.
  • Medical exams

This is one of the best ways to join the service as an officer for women. there are few more ways also:-

NCC special entry- You can join this, if you have done NCC and you have a ‘C’ certificate, then you can appear for NCC special entry scheme. You will be given relaxation in the written exam, but you will have to clear the SSB interview.

Age required for NCC special entry- Only unmarried candidates can apply for this. Candidate age must be between 19 to 25 yrs old.

Educational qualification for NCC special entry:- you must have a graduation degree with 50% marks, and NCC ‘C’ certificate with minimum B grade.

 Judge Advocate General

  • Age limit- candidate age must be between 21 to 27 yrs old.
  • Educational qualification- candidate should have an LLB degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

SSC technical entry

  • Age limit- unmarried candidates are eligible only and their age should be between 20-27 yrs old.
  • Educational Qualification- Candidates should have an engineering degree with 60% marks.

For this, all the exam you have to attain SSB is mandatory, in order to become an officer.

Apart from the above mainstream entries, there are few other entries like Army Medical Corps, Army Education Corps, and Military Nursing Service which induct women on a direct entry basis depending on the availability and requirement.
