Selection Process of NSG Commando
There is no direct recruitment. The recruitment for NSG Commandos is generally done by existing defence forces. So in order to be eligible to become a National Security Guard, one has to be a soldier or a trainee of a military or Para-military force. Only those with excellent performances are considered for NSG. Besides, they should not have any red-ink entry, no criminal record, and no punishment record in the last three years of service.

In order to become a commando, the first thing you have to do is join the Indian Army as a JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer) or CO (commissioned officer) or soldier after a few years of service you can apply for the post of commando. The Selection will be done in three phases:
- Stage 1: Pre- Selection criteria.
- Stage 2: Selection& initial qualification training.
- Stage 3: Advanced NSG training.
Only those candidates who finish the 14 months of training effectively are inducted into the NSG staff and are sent for advanced combat training to Israel.

Type of NSG (National Security Guard):
NSG Commando is composed of three parts:-
- Special Action Group (SAG): The special action group is the NSG’s principal offensive strike wing. Its members are exclusively drawn from the Indian Army. They are tasked with the counter-terrorist & counter hijacking operations.
- Special Ranger Group (SRG): This is the force that is deployed to protect VIP/VVIPs. Its members are drawn from the central armed police forces and state police.
- Special Composite Group (SCG): This is the NSG’s offensive team that is deployed for tackling counter-terrorist operations. It is deployed for carrying out the counter-terrorist operation in 5 regions- Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata & Gandhi Nagar.
