GOA MARITIME CONCLAVE -2021
Indian Navy is hosting the third edition of Goa Maritime Conclave 2021 from 7th of November ending today that is 9th of November. This is being organised under the aegis of Naval War College, Goa.
The theme this year is “Maritime Security and Emerging Non Traditional Threats: a case for proactive role for IOR Navies”. The theme this year was finalised after considering the necessity of “Winning Everyday Peace” in the maritime domain.
The Indian Navy is hosting Chiefs of Navies and the Heads of Maritime Forces at the GMC, 2021. These chiefs are from 12 Indian Ocean Region(IOR) countries. These include Bangladesh,Comoros,Indonesia,Madagaskar,Malaysia,Maldives,Mauritius ,Myanmar ,Seychelles,Singapore,Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Naval Command Vice Admiral AK Chawla, started off the event with the welcome address. In his welcome address he highlighted the importance of the maritime domain and Indian Navy’s commitment towards ensuring safety, security and inclusive growth .
He also highlighted the maritime vision initiated by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The maritime vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
The organisation of this event would definitely help boost shared understanding of the emerging non-traditional threats in the maritime domain and would also help develop inter compatibility between the countries.

Goa Maritime Conclave(GMC) is the symbol of India’s constructive involvement in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) as stated by the Defence Secretary, Shri Ajay Kumar. He also added that economic prosperity of a country and its maritime security are inter related and inter dependant.
The defence secretary also brought the light on the fact that India has been continuously putting in efforts towards reaching out to the nations in the region bilaterally. All this under the framework of IONS, IORA, BIMSTEC, Colombo Security Conclave.
He highlighted the initiative of Indian country in setting up the Information Fusion Centre for Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) . This initiative is to foster better understanding of the maritime domain and also gather support and participation from maritime countries of IOR.
The foreign secretary, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, delivered the pith address. This piece outlined India’s vision of SAGAR and the county’s approach to maritime security. He also mentioned that maritime transport and logistics are the major components of the Blue Economy and are thereby important for the IOR countries.
