The year 2021 marks the 17th edition of the military exercise. Exercise is being conducted at joint base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska.
In this exercise, the Indian contingent is comprised of 350 personnel from the Indian army. These personnel are from the Infantry Battalion Group.
The 16th edition of this exercise was held in February 2021 in the Mahajan field firing ranges in Bikaner.
The 14-day training schedule includes activities on joint training in a counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism environment under a United Nations mandate.
This exercise “YUDH ABHYAS” will prove to be a significant step towards the growing military cooperation between both the countries. This is being carried out with the aim of enhancing understanding and increase inter-operability between the armies of India and the United States.
This will also focus on combined arms manoeuvre
in the existing cold climatic conditions. The primary aim of this exercise is to share tactical drills and learn the best practices from each other.
The joint exercise will allow both armies to get to know each other better, share their wide experience, and enhance their situational awareness through information exchange. This will help them in undertaking joint operations at battalion level in mountainous terrain with cold climatic conditions under the ambit of the United Nations.
