Chandrayaan 2 Launch

Indian Space Research Organization or ISRO has successfully launched Chandrayaan 2 on Monday, 22nd July 2019. Chandrayaan 2 launch is the most ambitious space-based mission of India. As the name suggests, this mission is attempted to explore the south polar region of the Moon. It is a region which is unexplored by any country.

Schedule Changed from 15th July 2019 to 22nd July 2019

The launch of Chandrayaan 2 was planned on 15th July 2019 but commenced on 22nd July 2019. The delay took place when a ‘technical snag’ was discovered just before the final countdown.

Mission – Chandrayaan 2

Chandrayaan 2 will reach its orbit with the help of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle – GSLV MK-III which has the capability to carry 4-tonne class of satellites to the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). With the help of this space mission, ISRO will understand natural satellite better through complex topographical studies as well as comprehensive mineralogical analysis. Vikram – the lander will perform these complex topographical studies. Right after its launch, Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter will be able to communicate with IDSN at Byalalu and Vikram where IDSN stands for Indian Deep Space Network.

Indian Space Research Organization has undertaken a number of complex missions; however, Chandrayaan 2 is the most prestigious mission even aiming to land the rover on the Moon. If it is successful, it will make India the fourth country to pull off a soft landing on the Moon right after Russia, the US, and China.

The primary aim of the ISRO through this mission is to soft land the lander in the South Pole region of the Moon where no other country has gone till now.

In a statement, ISRO said, “When Chandrayaan 2 got separated from the rocket, the spacecraft’s solar array mechanically got deployed and Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network of ISRO at Bengaluru took control of the spacecraft.”
