The Indian Army offers Armed Forces careers option to soldiers through Territorial Army Bharti Rally.

Recruitment is done for Soldier in three main profiles-

  • Soldier General Duty
  • Soldier Clerk
  • Soldier Tradesman

Applicants are shortlisted through an open Rally and have to go through

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

  • 6 Km Run
  • Pull Ups
  • Balance
  • 9 Feet Ditch

Documentation

  • 10th mark sheet and passing certificate
  • Address Proof
  • Caste Certificate
  • Religion Certificate
  • Character Certificate
  • Unmarried Certificate

Medical Test

  • Height 160 to 170 Centimeters (different for different regions)
  • Weight 50 kg
  • Chest 77 Centimeters
  • Minimum expansion of chest should be 5 cms.
  • 6/6 eye sight.
  • Should have normal hearing with each ear
  • Should have natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points
  • Should not have any disease

The final step for Armed Forces careers is written examination for the candidates found eligible in all of the above.

In the Army, there are Eleven Zonal Recruiting Offices: Ambala, Bangalore, Chennai, Danapur, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Pune and Shillong;

Two Gorkha Recruiting Depots; And One Independent Recruiting Office: IRO Delhi Cantt.

In addition, there are 59 Army Recruiting Offices and 47 Regimental Centers which carry out recruitment through rallies in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Armed Forces Careers: The Indian Air Force conducts a written exam first for Airman post (equivalent to a soldier in Army and Seaman in Navy) for both technical and non technical entry for its Combatant Group X, Y and Z, and then the selected candidates have to go through physical and medical tests. Students who have cleared 10th, and not 12th yet, are eligible for entry in Y and Z groups only.

For enrollment of Seamen, The Indian Navy follows a similar process like the Air Force but there are limited seats for students who have cleared 10th standard but not 12th yet.

  • Clearing the Army Cadet College entrance test and then attending SSB. If you clear SSB, you can join ACC for 3 years and then one year in IMA. In four years, you can become a commissioned officer.
  • Appearing in UPSC based examinations: CDS or SSC.
  • Opting for Permanent Commission (Special List) or Special Commissioned Officer.
