Women Entries in Indian Armed Forces – India is a land of Glorious history warrior’s like Raziya Sultan, Rani Laxmi Bai and Indira Gandhi. This blog is especially for lady aspirants, which I’m sure, will help to bring enthusiasm, zeal and aspiration to make them more eager to join defence forces. Indian Army, Indian air force and Indian Navy offers numerous career options. In this modern world for growth in tremendous areas women need to shoulder with men. Government is providing equal opportunities for both whether the field is related with politics, sports, business and defence. Although, from very beginning, women in the Indian Armed forces were inducted but primarily they were involved in the non-combat role like medical corps as doctors and nurses. But after 1992, the doors were completely open for women entry as regular officers in aviation, logistics,engineering, executive cadres and law.
Whereas, women in the medical branch i.e. doctors and nurses can serve as Permanent Commissioned (PC) officers and two more cadres JAG and AEC have granted permanent commission to the women in the Indian armed Forces. Rest other branches have open entries for Short Service Commission.
Indian Army | Women Entries in Indian Armed Forces
CDS-CombinedDefence Services entry is for male/female candidates of age 19 to 25 years (as per notified in the advertisement). They have to clear written exam held by UPSC which is held twice in a year.Qualified candidates of written exam are called for the SSB interview. Through this entry women can join Indian Army.
Educational qualification: Graduation passed or appearing in any discipline from a recognized university is required.
NCC Special Entry- This entry is for NCC women/man cadets who have 2 years’ service in NCC senior division Army/Air Force or Navy Wing with minimum B grade in C certificate exam. Women cadets of age 19 to 25 years (as per notified in the advertisement) can apply for it. Numbers of Vacancies per course are notified by additional directorate general recruiting. Final year student /graduate with 50% aggregate are eligible for this entry.
JAG Entry- This entry is especially for the law graduates. The age required for this entry is 21 to 27 years which is notified along with the vacancies by additional directorate general recruiting in the month of April or October.
Educational Qualification:To be eligible for this entry, a candidate must hold a graduate degree of LLB/LLM with minimum 55% aggregate and the candidate should be registered with Bar Council of India or state.
SSC Tech Entry- Women engineering students of age 20 to 27 years (as per notified in the advertisement) are eligible for this entry. They can apply for it while in final year or after completing their degree. An engineering graduate in any discipline (as per notified in the advertisement) is eligible to apply for it.
Indian Navy | Women Entries in Indian Armed Forces
EXECUTIVE BRANCH
- SSC- Air Traffic Controller: Women candidates of age 19 ½ to 25 years are eligible for this entry. They can apply for this entry if they have completed their graduation in any science stream i.e. Physics/Maths/Electronics OR M.Sc with Maths / Physics /Electronics.
- SSC- Observer: Women candidates of age 19 to 23 years can apply for this entry. For applying in this entry, women candidates need to have a graduate degree in any discipline with minimum 55% marks with Maths and Physics at 10+2 level.
- SSC- Law: This entry is for female Law candidates whose age is between 22 to 27 years as per notified in the advertisement. To be eligible for this entry a candidates should carry a graduate degree in LAW with minimum 55% marks.
- SSC- Logistics: Women candidates who hold B.E/B.Tech in Computers, IT, Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Marine engineering OR graduate with PG diploma in material management are eligible for this entry. The age group is 19 ½ to 25 years as per notified in the advertisement.
ENGINEERING BRANCH
- UES SSC (Naval Architecture): University Entry scheme is for Women engineers carrying the B.E/B.Tech degree in naval architecture / Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical / Metallurgical / Aerospace engineering with 60% marks can apply for it. The age group for this entry is 19 to 25 years as per notified in the advertisement.
- SSC Naval Architecture: Women engineers within the age group of 21 to 25 years as per notified in the advertisement and having B.E/B.Tech degree in Naval architecture / Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical / Metallurgical / Aerospace engineering with 60% marks can apply for it.
- Education Branch: Women candidates of age 21 to 25 years are eligible for this entry if they have passed B.E/B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical OR M.Sc in Physics / Maths / Computer application with at least 50% marks.
Indian Air Force | Women Entries in Indian Armed Forces
AFCAT Entry
You can opt for the following branches by AFCAT exam:
- Flying branch: Women candidates of age 19 to 23 years can opt for flying branch. Female candidates have the opportunity to fly transport aircrafts or helicopters but they are not eligible for fighter aircrafts. To apply for this entry, a candidate should be having a Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university with aggregate of 60% marks and have passed Math and Physics at 10+2 level OR B.E/B.Tech degree from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks.
- Technical Branch: Female engineering candidates of age 18 to 28 years can opt for technical branch. There are two types of technical service whose educational qualification conditions are given below:
- Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical):Minimum four year degree course from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks and qualification in at least eight subjects out of eighteen as per notified in the advertisement OR cleared Section A and B exam of Associate membership of Institution of engineers or Aeronautical society of India in regular courses.
- Aeronautical Engineer (Electrical):Minimum year degree course from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks and qualification in at least eight subjects as per notified in the advertisement OR cleared Section A and B exam of Associate membership of Institution of engineers or Aeronautical society of India or graduate membership exam of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers in regular courses.
- Ground Duty Branches: Those who want to opt for the ground duty branches, the age requirements are different. For graduates, Post Graduates, LLB, M.Ed/ PhD/ CA: 20 to 26 years. There are three types of services in Ground Duty Branches whose educational qualification conditions are given below:
- Administration and Logistics:Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university with aggregate of 60% marks OR a Post Graduate degree/ diploma in any discipline from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks.
- Education: Post Graduate degree in any discipline with aggregate of minimum 50% marks
- Accounts: Graduate degree in any commerce with aggregate of minimum 60% marks OR a Post Graduate degree/ diploma in Commerce (M Com) / CA / ICWA with aggregate of minimum 50% mark.
METEOROLOGY BRANCH: Rather than AFCAT entry, Inthis entry candidates are short-listed and called for SSB interviews at Air Force Selection Board’s. Age group in this entry is 20 to 25 years and 27 years for PhD candidates. To be eligible for this entry candidates must be having a Post graduate degree in any science stream / Mathematics / Statistics / Geography / CS / EVS / Physics / Geo-physics etc. with minimum 50% aggregate and have scores 55% marks both in Mathematics and Physics at graduation level.
