DRDO’S Covid-19 Drug, 2-DG:-
This drug Deoxy-D-glucose has developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS). This is the lab of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and this medicine is developed with the collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad.
DRDO Anti Covid Drug:-
When the first phase of coronavirus surge in the country then the DRDO scientist start developing an anti covid drug in INMAS with the collaboration of CCMB – Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad. They found that the 2-DG molecule works better against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and stops the growth of the virus in the lungs. After this result, the DCGI of India give the permission of phase-2 trail.
New weapons of Defence that under trial in DRDO
During the phase-II trial, they found that the drug is safe for the corona patient. The DRDO 2DG medicine phase-II and phase-IIb trials were conducted in 6 and 11 hospitals respectively across the nation.
After receiving positive responses in Phase-II and Phase-IIb trials, DCGI permitted phase-III trials. A total of 220 patients included in the phase-3 trial and these patients were from 27 Covid-1 Hospitals of UP, West Bengal, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, and Karnataka. The majority of the patients showed improvements and became independent from supplemental oxygen by Day 3.
After the 3rd trial result, DRDO’S Covid-19 Drug 2-DG Approved by the DCGI of India on 9th May 2021 for the moderate and severe patient of covid-19. It can help that patient who is totally dependent on Oxygen.
