Earlier the women in the Indian Armed forces like the Indian Air force, Indian Navy and Indian Army, etc were only allowed to have Short Service Commission. The Short Service Commission is basically a duty period of 10-14 years only after this one will get retired from the service.

Recently, The Supreme Court has given orders for the permanent Commitment to the Women in the service. It is a historic decision taken by the Supreme court. The Central Government of India were stood against this, The Central Government stated that women are not capable of the war zone situation and they also have to deal with pregnancy, motherhood and family obligation, etc. The Supreme Court said These all the Arguments which have been done that are completely based on gender partiality. The Opposition (Central Government) failed to give any valid reason for this. This decision of the Supreme Court will boost Women’s empowerment.

Women officers for Permanent Commission in Indian Army:

Indian Army on Thursday declared the results of the first-ever Board held for granting permanent commission (PC) to women officers. The Number 5 Selection Board was constituted following the Supreme Court of India’s landmark judgment in February 2020, directing the Army to induct all eligible women officers as permanent commission officers.

Around 49% of women officers would continue to serve in the force while close to 320 women officers will retire after 20 years of pensionable service, sources within the Indian Army given the statement.

Supreme Court Decision on Permanent Commission for Women:

Supreme Court Ordered to Grant Permanent Commission to women in the Indian Army, Indian Airforce and Indian Navy, etc. Central Government stood against this. The Central Government said in the statement that the Women are emotionally weeks as compared to the men. As per the Central Government, the women should not get the permanent commission in the Indian Armed forces.

The Supreme Court said These all the Arguments which have been done that are completely based on gender partiality. The Opposition (Central Government) failed to give any valid reason for this.

Supreme Court grants Permanent Commission to Women in the Armed Forces

The Supreme Court has also said that the women have done a lot for the Nation being Commissioned as Short Service. If the women get the Permanent Commission in the Indian Armed Forces they can do better. The Women officers have done well in the Indian Armed Forces and they have also served well in the operation areas where they get posted and have worked under the capacity of 14-15 years.  The Court also said that women can also do more better in this field if they are given more chances and more facilities than men get.
