EXERCISE ‘JIMEX’

The fifth edition of India – Japan Maritime Bilateral Exercise JIMEX, between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), will commence from today i.e 6th of October in Arabian Sea and will be concluded on 8th of October 2021. JIMEX series of activities started in January 2012 with exceptional spotlight on oceanic security collaboration. The last version of EXERCISE ‘JIMEX’ was led in September 2020.

JIMEX-21 aims to develop a common understanding of operational procedures and enhance inter-operability through the conduct of a multitude of advanced exercises, across the entire spectrum of maritime operations. Multi-faceted tactical exercises involving weapon firings, cross-deck helicopter operations and complex surface, anti-submarine and air warfare drills will consolidate coordination developed by the two navies, the Ministry of Defence informed in a statement

Natively constructed Guided Missile Stealth Destroyer Kochi and Guided Missile Frigate Teg, under the order of Rear Admiral Ajay Kochhar, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, will address the Indian Navy. The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force will be addressed by JMSDF(Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force) ships Kaga, an Izumo Class Helicopter Carrier and Murasame, a Guided Missile Destroyer, driven by Rear Admiral IkeuchiIzuru, Commander Escort Flotila – 3 (CCF-3). Notwithstanding ships, P8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, indispensable helicopters and MiG 29K contender airplane will likewise take part in the activity.

The EXERCISE ‘JIMEX’ involved ships and aircraft of both the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) and Indian Navy (IN) “engaging in a high tempo of operations focused on air, surface & sub-surface dimensions of #MaritimeOps as well as air domain,” as the Indian Navy spokesperson put it on Twitter
