The Indian Military Academy Passing of Parade is held twice a year firstly in June and secondly in December. The IMA POP 2018 was a parade, in which a group of cadets completed their one and a half year training to join the army. Not only from India but also students from other Indian-friendly countries came here for the training, some of the friendly countries are Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. The Indian Military Academy is situated in Dehradun and is administrated by the Indian Army and of its function is the IMA POP 2018.
Talking about the IMA POP 2018, it was held on 8th December 2018. The parade had 428 cadets that were to be passed out. 347 of them were to join the Indian army and 81 went back to their respective countries to join their armies. The Parade was done in the presence of Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCAOS), Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu. While congratulating the cadets the Lieutenant said, “It was a matter of great honor for me to address the cadets on this occasion at an institute where he himself participated in a parade as a young cadet many years back.” In the 347 selected students of IMA POP 2018, 53 cadets were from Uttar Pradesh followed by 51 from Haryana, 36 from Bihar, 26 from Uttarakhand, 25 from Delhi, 20 from Maharashtra, 15 from Himachal Pradesh, 14 from Punjab, 12 from Jammu and Kashmir, 10 from Madhya Pradesh and 8 from West Bengal.
In IMA POP 2018, The Gold Medal, Sward of honor and the Guard Commander was awarded to Arjun Thakur followed by the silver medalist Gurvir Singh Talwar and the Bronze medalist Gurvansh Singh Gosal. Also, TGC Silver Medal was given to Harsh Bansiwal and the Foreign GC Silver Medal was won by Bishal Chandra Waji and also the Chief of Army Staff Banner was given to Sangro Company, Manikshaw Battalion.
During an interview when the Gold medalist was asked about his feelings after completing the Indian Military Academy training and passing out in IMA POP 2018, he said, “I am feeling very good right now, it’s a mixed feeling altogether. Firstly, we are now taking our journey to a new era. We have achieved our goal and now a new life is going to begin. On the other hand, I feel bad because I will be separated from my friends with whom I faced so many hardships and problems. They might not be with us but our enthusiasm will remain the same.”
When asked by the Silver medalist how does it feel to join the army now after IMA POP 2018? He replied, “The number of people willing to join the army has decreased. None of my school friends wanted to join the Army but make their carrier in some relaxing fields.” He also said, “Here in the Army, we don’t come for money but surely for the honor. The satisfaction before going to bed about what we are doing for our country is incomparable. This career is not just for us but for many others.” Later when he was asked why he joined the 11th Gurkha 6th battalion regiment? He said, “The army situated in Gurkha is highly enthusiastic and always ready to sacrifice everything. That’s the reason why I wanted to join the Gurkha regiment after passing out from the IMA POP 2018.”
